In the last article we talk about Chan Chuen陳摶, we cannot forget his major contribution - I Ching易經. I Ching is the main original source of Chinese culture. Taoism, Medical, Metaphysic are based on it. Without I Ching易經, we could not continue our culture during our country was taken over by other country. Deeper and deeper getting into the metaphysic, more and more you will find that I was true.
I Ching易經 was built up by several basic theories, such as Yam Yang 陰陽, Ho Tou 河圖 & Lok Syu 洛書, Ba Gua 八卦, Gon Ji 干支. So it is the first step for door of metaphysic, everyone in metaphysics field would learn it first!
Due to its simple theory which makes most of the masters don’t care of it because it does not see that was so important. Those masters will only use a couple minutes to finish their teaching on it.
When I was learning I Ching易經, I got a key that, “Most simple theory is more difficult, most difficult theory is simpler.” I spent more than 3 years on those basic theories and try to get its roots. I still continue to dig it daily.
I always told my students, “If you don’t know its original, you cannot get its essential. You have no idea how does it changes, you will become confuse when you face the complicate problem. We need to get deep in its roots to understand our previous master’s logical thinking. Once you get it, you are him and he is you! The master’s spirit combines with your spirit, which is the real lineage!”
Nowadays everyone is teaching the Ho Tou 河圖 and Lok Syu 洛書’s diagrams as the following, but how many people understand why it forms like that? Can it change to other shapes?
Every beginner will hear a legend of our ancestor, Tai Yue 大禹, solved the flooding problem in China, he found a horse and tortoise carried a special pattern like this diagrams. Then he copied the diagrams and told us that these two diagrams are the secret of our universe. Everyday we will discover some patterns in our nature, but why we cannot find any connection with the secret of our universe? Only Tai Yue 大禹 could do that! We keep continue to believe it over 5000 years!
If you have done some researches, you will find the original Ho Tou 河圖 and Lok Syu 洛書 were not the same as what we see today. The original diagrams liked the following picture when I took from where the original diagrams coming.
The diagrams we used right now are coming from Chu Hei in Sung dynasty. He was a Confucian but good in I Ching易經 and Feng Shui.
Why he changed the diagrams from the original to the one we have? I just want to left some room for the reader research it yourself!
