When I visited one of the discussing board on the internet during the moment of Feng Shui was introduced to the western world, one of the members there talked about the translation of “風水” in mandarin is “Feng Shui”, which have same pronunciations as “糞水” in Chinese, but both of the meanings are totally different.

The first meaning is “Wind and Water”, the second one is “Feces water”. The writer was trying to say those western people learning are garbage. May be that was a joke, believed it or not are depending on you.

If we translate this term in Cantonese, it is “Fung Shui”, which have same pronunciations as “瘋水” in Chinese, it means “Crazy Water”. Water in Cantonese also represents money. Hidden meaning is “money can make you crazy” or “fastest money”.

After the explanation, which way you think will be more appropriate for the translation and accepted by you?
